Project Jewel - Changi Airport Art Competition

One thing we keep reminding Miza when she joins an art competition that it is not about winning, but it is about exploring and working within a concept. She learns to plan, to build up a concept within a theme, to explore possibilities on how to approach the work, to find ways of how to do about it and trying out different different style of drawing.

Having FUN is the first MUST have moto when she works with her art.

She worked hard for this piece. She stayed up very late as she has to juggle with her works from school. She is lucky that she does not have any tuition at all. All her extra activities after school are related to her hobby like digital art, art, swimming and piano. And she has to go for the religious class every Saturday, that is a MUST. I can imagine it will be very hard for her if she has to go for extra tuition doing another tedious works that will make her very tired to even think for some creative works.

Working with one art piece can be very messy for her. It could be a long process, as she loves and enjoys working with it. We usually allow her to work with her arts ONLY after she had finished her school works. And she is allowed to stay late if it is over the week end, otherwise she will be very tired for school. She stays late in school almost every day for her CCA Art, D3T2 Art and Infocom as well as her speech and drama class.

Keeping up good mood and positive energy is important when doing with art. Sometimes we can see from the colors chosen to roughly understand the emotion of the person behind the drawing. Dark and gloomy colors somehow show sadness or struggle inside. Whereas bright, cheerful and colorful works can show another story about the person and on and on. We always tell Miza to always remember to inspire others to do good things in life. It should be something uplifting and motivating. Miza agrees to it, she also think, it is good to inspire other even only in a little gesture through her art works.

So Yes! May she continues loving her work with arts, pursuing further for her love for arts. It is not easy, It will never be easy to balance hobby and school. It is like a juggler, she has to make sure no balls drop on the floor ... every moment in her life is about decision and priority. She has to understand how to manage her time and her mood :)

All the best Miza .....

Learning to make her own tutorial video

Yesterday she was busy preparing the table for this. She said she wants to try to make her own tutorial for mixed media video. It is always her dream to be able to make her own animation movie one day. She has been exploring Adobe CC, which is not cheap to afford monthly. Adobe now running in the cloud system where we have to pay monthly subscription to use the software.

So in the meantime she has to get by with what ever we have available. She has given my Lumix G2 few months ago since hubby bought for me a Canon DSLR. She uses Lumix to shot the video of her process with a tripod.

and she used Movie Maker to actually edit the video and add music to it.

and this is how the video look like on YouTube ...

Gold Fish for Good Luck

I love how the school teach the girls to vote for a lot of things they do in class. It's a freedom of choice, even this attitude applied to art class as well. Today, Miza came back from school and show me this beautiful charm of goldfish. She said, "My class voted me for my art work, the whole girls in class. They are so kind to me, and I earn this gift from my art's teacher"

And these are her works that had been selected by the class. Cheers

Miza is set for 2014

She is all set for 2014. All her school's extra activities have been settled. She has another one full week to look ahead. She will be having a lot of fun doing with art after school as well as exposure on digital graphic. She is joining the talent program for Art and Infocom at school. She is looking forward to work with the digital graphic from her infocom class. She is hoping to work with some animation as well this year. On top of that this year she will be joining the P5 and P6 batch for her art activities in school.

Of course on top of that, she has a target that she wants to achieve. She wants to balance school and hobby better this year. She had learnt how crucial it is to have a good time management in order to balance hobby and school. Last year her schedule was very tight and cramped between school's exam and art competitions here and there.

She said it is all about Time and Commitment, to continue telling herself that she has to focus on things she needs to do and achieve for the day and put those are not important on the side. Of course it is not easy, it takes strong discipline to do that. All the best Miza .......

and here are some of her newest drawing .....

Miza's cupcake company

Some weeks before the school end, she kept coming to me and explaining about her mission of setting up a cup cake company. What she meant by cup cake company is not making the cup cake but to actually draw the cup cake. She took orders from friends in school, some of them have standard design as per menu she had given out to them and some of them requested for customs order. She did not charge anything for this, this is for FUN and she did them all for free. At the end she brought home about 137 orders from friends. She actually had piece of paper that her friends wrote down their order and she used that as her basis on creating the cupcakes.

She drew the cup cakes by hand, then she multiplied them digitally. She then printed her digital work and color them manually one by one. It took about close to one week for her to finish them all. She also need to trim the pictures to the edges to make them special.

She said she is very proud for herself that she is able to keep her promise and deliver what she said she wanted to do. She also learn how to actually processing an order and small production right from the beginning to the end. She also packaged the whole drawing in a nice hand made envelopes too.

Here are some of the pictures of those cupcakes! Congratulations Miza for the hard work and life learning lesson.

Miza's Design on School Handbook for 2014

She is so happy to see her design work on the school handbook. And it is a pretty handbook as well. I am sure the girls in the school will love the book. Mrs. Jess Low her art teacher who is her Math teacher as well guide her on this project. Mrs. Low has inspired miza so much on her art works. I think Miza met Mrs. Low quite number of hours and days during her P3 journey. It is actually a very interesting combination to have a Math and an Art Teacher as one person. It is two subject that goes in opposite ways, one requires structure and logical thinking, the other requires creativity and freedom. So it was a marvelous journey for both of them I am sure.

and let me share with you the video i found from Adobe channel, since we are looking into purchasing the adobe photoshop software online. here you go ... i hope you can see the benefit out of it.

Okay ... me and Miza wish you a happy holiday. Cheers from Singapore

It's a wrap for the year end 2013

It's a wrap! Miza is closing her 2013 year very soon, few more to look forward too before she really ends this year. One of them is her LAMDA exam which is due next week right after she returns from Bali. She enjoys doing her speech and drama as well, and she always looks forward for the year end exam to test her ability on delivering two poems in front of the examiner who fly all the way from London. This is an international certification. It has been a good result for her for the past two years that is why it gives her high motivation to continue the effort.

She has involved in more art activities recently, be it inside the school or outside the school. She is very much involved on few numbers of children art competition these recent months. She wanted to learn how she actually can adjust her time and schedule between following up her passion for art as well as study in school. It is not easy, especially when everything due about the same period of time. She has things to juggle and balance as well as stay healthy. So this year is a good experience for her to actually access her capability on balancing her schedule. Hopefully she learns well from this year experience next year, how to prioritize her time and focus.

She knows that she has to be strong in Math and English, and that will be highly emphasized on her focus for academic. Her score dropped a bit for the second semester of this year academic result, but thank's to her first semester result that overall year end result still put her in the first category banding. But come to P4 is very crucial, she really needs to understand how to maintain her schedule as well as allocating her focus accordingly, between her hobby and study. She said ... she loves to be busy and looking forward for something.

She had achieved things here and there and she also lost things here and there. But what most important is to quickly come back and recover from the lost as soon as possible and move on to continue to do her best. She understands hard-work and discipline is the key for everything. She also realized, she lost one distinction reward for Mathematics International Competition, she hopes to recover that back next year.

She travels a bit more this year to follow her passion and meets so many new friends. She enjoys making new friendships and sharing laughter with them. She loves to hug everyone around her, she can basically hug someone who she just know for the day. Her hug is contagious, it just sparks love and warmth to people around her. That is wonderful Miza ..... keep it up!

So that is basically the good year in miza's life like some other good years that she already has in life. Every milestone in her life is because somebody else help and support. She must remember that, appreciating other efforts no matter how small it is is very important. I also hope she continues making friends with everyone around her without boundary. Every friends are special, they bring certain things in life and enrich her experience toward life. And one last thing, stay humble ..... when we stay humble we continue learning, and in life, I hope she learns it very well, things can be unfair or unexpected no matter how well we had prepare our selves, by realizing that, I do really hope she can recover fast and continue to move on and put her best effort no matter what.

Cheers everyone, we are in Bali now ......

Miza's handmade canvases

Miza is "already" on term break mood. Her mind is already somewhere in Jakarta and Jogjakarta, on top of her Hunger Games - trilogy [ her second time reading them all over again ], minecraft game by mohjang [ she has been begging us to allow her to have the full version of the game so she can build some of the texture herself outside the game and import back to the game, we are still keeping it pending until the school result is out ] and last one is ... drawing and drawing and drawing .....

Last night she came up with an idea to make her own canvas from the used material like old newspaper and tissue paper. She pasted them onto a free postcard that we can collect from coffeeshop or library out there. Once she glued them onto the card she then GESSO them or primed the surface so they are good for painting.

This is one of the painting she did on her new experiment. She said she will do more later on today and for the rest of the holiday. She had done few canvases for her to use.

and I made this little clip for her ... It was fun making the home videos lately.

Relax within tight schedule

it's exam's week, and she had done a lot of practices yesterday for almost all subjects (math, english and science), it was Daddy who accompanied her to study yesterday while I was resting cause I was down with severe headache.

Today after school she asked for 45 minutes of her time to do her art work. I told her, she can do that and leave it to the side if she can not finish it by today. There is no need to rush to work with art pieces.
